Colored Pencils promotes artists representing our vision of a New Portland.
Artists are essential to healthy communities, traditional and urban American. Colored Pencils proves the proposition that artists inspire in dense East Portland apartment complexes, among our elegant elders, on day-labor hire sidewalks, after a troubled day at school, as much as they do in Pearl District lofts and at Portland’s amazing Art Museum.
Three muticultural artists are introduced with their work at each of Colored Pencils event. By nurturing diverse artists and creating opportunities for them to show, share, and sell their work we help promote the economic viability of the Portland art scene and create professional development opportunities for emerging artists whose opportunities may be limited.
This stimulates artists to create more art, while helping preserve the unique cultural voices they have to share with Portland. The Colors of Portland Art Exhibits are a visible and tangible manifestation of quality, creativity, collaboration, integrity, compassion, and commitment, as well as innovation, teamwork and service. They are an aesthetic experience that invites viewers to renew their unique personal connection to the mysteries of art through these beautiful visions of how "New Portland" will look.
